The Skyliner is the Newsletter of the Northeast El Paso Rotary Club. It is printed for distribution on the last Friday of each month. Regular features in each Newsletter include some items that are already on the webpage. To avoid duplication, the version of the Newsletter that you will find here does not include any of that information. If you would like to receive a print copy, or have information you’d suggest for inclusion in the Skyliner, please contact Jean Haverstick.

OCTOBER 2005

Vocational Service Month

The Declaration for Rotarians and Businesses and Professions

As a Rotarian engaged in a business or profession, I am expected to:

Consider my vocation to be another opportunity to serve

Be faithful to the letter and to the spirit of the ethical codes of my vocation, to the laws of my country, and to the moral standards of my community

Do all in my power to dignify my vocation and to promote the highest ethical standards in my chosen vocation.

Be fair to my employer, employees, associates, competitors, customers, the public, and all those with whom I have a business or professional relationship

Recognize the honor and respect due to all occupations which are useful to society

Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the quality of life in my community

Adhere to honesty in my advertising and in all representations to the public concerning my business or profession

Neither seek from nor grant to a fellow  Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship

PRESIDENT’S CORNER

BY JIMMY MELVER

The first three months have been a Great Start for the Northeast Rotary Club.

My Board has been very supportive and taken the task to heart.  Every board meeting’s had over 8 people attending and the last board meeting had 12 people.  Thanks for caring about our club.

We have our 1st Web Page, thanks to Jean Haverstick, 1st Newsletter in 4 years thanks to Maureen Hankins, financial reports & collections thanks to Tom Chaney, great fellowship outings thanks to Dr. Gary Ryan, accurate club reports & district reports, thanks to Lynda Richards.

We had one member join in July, one member coming into the club in September, and the board approved membership for 2 people in October.  At this rate, my club Goal of a 20% increase in membership might be met by November!

Thanks to Fred Kisiel, Jimmie Daw Sr., Sherman Barnett, David Leyva, Rita Baca, & Norma Lewis for working on the New Car Raffle, scheduled for Thursday, October 27.  If you have not gotten your ticket, you need to buy it NOW.

Thanks again for the Great Start and your making a difference in our club by contributing.

Tinnie, NM Outing

Builds Camaraderie

Several Club members and significant others met in Tinnie, NM for dinner September 24th.

According to event planner Gary Ryan, “We had a great time. The restaurant was beautiful and everyone got a talk on its history and a look around it. There was lots of fun gambling and plenty of stories to tell. Only, no one’s telling them so we’ll let the pictures do that!

Thanks again go to Gary for the work he did in planning this outing!
